Fallout 3 has a gorgeous free 4K 60fps remaster you can play now

Fallout 3 now looks better than ever in 4K 60fps on Xbox

The Fallout series is one of the most cherished Western RPGs of all time which is why fans will often return to the beloved classics, now under the Bethesda umbrella.

The first game in this post-apocalyptic RPG series from Bethesda was Fallout 3 in 2008 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. For many fans of the series, Fallout 3 is the best entry - and I agree. There’s a reason why I maxed out all achievements and trophies on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in the day. So, if I can have an opportunity to play an even better version of a game I love, you can bet that I’m all for it and I’m far from alone with that sentiment.

Check out the Fallout 3 trailer below!

Xbox has been leading the way for several years when it comes to backward compatibility which was introduced to the green brand with the Xbox 360. Since that time, every Xbox console in each generation has been able to play select games of yesteryear. What’s more, those classic titles look even better thanks to the ‘FPS Boost’ program and some of the titles will even be in glorious 4K. One such game is the aforementioned Fallout 3.

When played on the Xbox Series X, Fallout 3 takes full advantage of the FPS Boost with the added benefit of super crisp High Dynamic Range visuals, and Xbox gamers are loving it. “Fallout 3 is 4K/1440p with 60fps. It’s the best time to revisit this gem!” exclaimed Eglwyswrw, opening up the discussion on a thread.

Fallout 3 is stunning on Xbox Series X,” said GameplayLoop on a different Reddit thread. “The upgrades to Fallout 3 on Series X make this look like a whole different game. Has it aged? Totally. But goddamn it looks good in comparison to previous console options.”

Fans have also been patiently waiting for Fallout 4 to get The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition treatment with improved 4K visuals and enhanced frames-per-second, which was originally set to launch in 2023. However, Bethesda gave an update on the free Fallout 4 new-gen upgrade late last year with it now expected to launch at some point in 2024.

Fallout 3 is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. What’s more, it’s also available to subscribers of Xbox Game Pass as well as PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. Hopefully, along with Fallout 4, we should have enough post-apocalyptic goodness to keep us busy until Fallout 5 eventually arrives.
