Professor David Edgar
Professor of Strategy and Business Transformation

Dr David Edgar is full Professor of Strategy and Business Transformation at Glasgow School for Business and Society (GSBS), Glasgow Caledonian University. He holds a PhD in strategic management and has extensive teaching and research experience. He is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (Higher Education Academy), a Certified Management and Business Educator with the Chartered Association of Business Schools, and a UKCGE Recognised Research Supervisor.
His main areas of research and teaching are in the field of strategic management, specifically business models, dynamic capabilities, business ambidexterity and complexity, and innovation. He teaches all levels of award from undergraduate to master's and doctorate, and has extensive experience of different pedagogy, programme development and international partnerships. In addition, he has worked with a range of organisations on Business Transformation projects in particular relating to e-Business strategies, innovation, business models and knowledge or talent management.
Professor Edgar has supervised to successful completion 32 PhDs and is currently supervising a further eight. His experience in PhD supervision is extensive and globally recognised. He has examined 30 PhDs for a wide range of institutions in the UK and overseas and regularly attends Doctoral symposiums and seminars. His experience spans a range of different types of Doctorates from Professional Doctorates, including DBA and DMan, to Research, taught and PhD by publication. He has designed and delivered Doctoral training to a range of Latin American institutions as well as delivered short courses and training for European and Middle Eastern institutions. He is currently on the editorial board of ten journals and regularly reviews for a further twelve. In addition, he regularly contributes to conference organising committees and acts as a reviewer for a range of conferences and grant awarding bodies.
With an extensive global network of colleagues in academia and industry, Professor Edgar is regularly working on international collaborative projects and is always seeking to support and develop initiatives for the common good.
