1956: Serious On Set
Though he later added "director, racing driver, and philanthropist" to his resume, Newman got his start in theater, studying at the Yale School of Drama in Connecticut and the Actors Studio in New York City.
1958: Wedding Bells
Newman and Woodward cut the cake on their wedding day, January 29th, embarking on a remarkable 50-year marriage together. And 1958 was an especially great year for Woodward: just two months after marrying Newman, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Three Faces of Eve.

47 years after they were first married — and five decades after they first met — Woodward and Newman's beautiful marriage was still going strong.
2006: Friends Forever
Decades after pairing up for their acclaimed roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and The Sting (1973), Newman and Robert Redford remained friends, seen here at the Sundance Institute 25th Anniversary celebration in 2006.
