The terrifying ghosts from Ring and Grudge to face off in Sadako vs Kayako
The film was greenlit following a fan-made mash-up of the two franchises
Step aside, Batman and Superman - there's one battle coming on its way that could well be altogether more interesting, exciting and unpredictable: Sadako vs Kayako.
This tie-in sequel will see the two ghosts from mammoth Japanese franchises Ring and Ju-on: The Grudge return to screens, this time facing off against one another (and spooking others in the process, we're sure).
Empire reported last December how the film had been impressively greenlit after a fan-made mash-up video of the two went viral, which evidently set tongues wagging over at studios Kadokawa and the Japanese strand of NBC Universal.
The studios haven't only started making the film; they've just released a trailer which you can view below.
From the trailer, fans of each franchise will recognise the house that served as Ju-on's setting, the creepy ghost kid named Toshio and a certain cursed videotape.
It's not a stretch to assume that Hollywood, who remade both films in 2002 and 2004 respectively, will soon be sniffing around the project.
Ring was first released in Japan back in 1998 while Ju-on: The Grudge arrived in 2002. Sadako vs Kayako will be released in Japan this June, but there's no current word on a UK release.
