Hiking on Galdhøpiggen

Norway's highest mountain top, 2469 meters above sea level and offers a fantastic view of Jotunheimen. It's not insurmountable to reach the top either.

From Jotunheimen Fjellstue you can go on a day trip to Galdhøpiggen. The tour usually starts from Juvasshytta or Spiterstulen, 30 and 45 minutes by car from our parking.

From Juvasshytta (1840 meter above sea level)

The trip takes approx. 3.5h one way. The first stage from Juvasshytta is 2.8 kilometres with a gentle climb of approx. 200 metres. The stretch takes about one hour. You then reach the glacier edge of Styggebreen where you must walk in a rope with a guide to cross the glacier. The trip across the glacier takes about 50 minutes. The last leg from Piggura to the top of Galdhøpiggen is the steepest part of the trip and takes 30 minutes to an hour. There are daily walks every day during the summer season.

From Spiterstulen (1100 masl.)

The trip takes 7-9 hours round trip. From Spiterstulen you can walk on your own on a well-marked path where you do not have to cross glaciers. It is a long but relatively easy trip of 5.3 km. There are also opportunities to make your trip more demanding, either with a guide or as a climber.
