''Tegenaria atrica'' is one of the biggest spiders of Central and Northern Europe. Females grow up to 1.8 cm, males up to 1.5 cm. Adult males can be found from July to October, adult females occur all year. In UK, it is colloquially referred to as the dust spider or the dustbunny spider for their fondness of building webs around dustbunnies under furniture or behind stock.

Which reminds of a large spider in our house. It lives somewhere below the heat installation in our living room. It's about the size of a golf ball and once in a while it crosses the living room. It's large enough to see it in your side view whilst not directly looking at it. It totally freaks me out. Posted 11 years ago
The more people scare from a spider the more interesting it is! :) I'll grab my camera and run towards it! Posted 11 years ago
I think Wikipedia is wrong in stating that these grow up to 2cm only? Posted 11 years ago
The size description is a bit strange, the dutch wiki says also that they become up to 18mm, but later says that the legs can reach a length of 55mm. So the 18mm is pure body size and you have to multiply the leg length by two to get the spider size. I think it is confusing because in other insects and animals the legs are included.
Other spider sites just say these spider can become 10cm big and that is just right.
