This was before the easy-to-install OpenSolaris distribution. But my little laptop ran Solaris just fine. Just took a bit to install, that`s all. That`s the old Sun Java Desktop System (JDS). Sun offered two versions of JDS -- one based on Linux initially and later one based on Solaris. The scene here was at Stephen Walli`s FOSS Beijing conference in 2007. #solaris #java #linux

I ran Solaris for years on a Sony VAIO 1.2-pound sub-laptop, with a little 1 GHz Intel chip. I obviously wasn't coding, but ran like a rock for me. And yes, I installed it myself. 

Now those are some memories...

I forgot about the initial Linux-based JDS, must have been a lot of internal debate when it was first rolled out and then again when it was canceled. Based on a SuSe distro.
