Erling Haaland may be banging in the goals for Manchester City, but it is Julian Alvarez who has been the best player for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season.
That’s according to former Manchester City player and BBC Sport pundit Micah Richards.

Richards has said that Julian Alvarez has been the best player for Manchester City this season.
The pundit said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think if you look at the system, tactically, how they set up, Alvarez has been Man City’s best player.
“He has been the best player because he has been playing in the number 10 role just behind Haaland.”
The 23-year-old has scored three goals and given three assists in eight Premier League appearances for the Citizens so far this campaign.
The Argentina international, who can operate as a winger, forward or attacking midfielder, has also scored three goals and given one assist in one start and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League for Pep Guardiola’s side this campaign.
Norway international striker Haaland has scored eight goals and given one assist in eight Premier League matches for City this campaign.
The 23-year-old has not scored in two UEFA Champions League appearances this campaign.
My View: Julian Alvarez an important player for Manchester City
Like Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez is at his best upfront, but manager Pep Guardiola has found a way to play the Argentine along with the Norwegian striker.
And, the 23-year-old seems to be thriving in his role at City.
I believe that Alvarez, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, will play a big role for City this season.
Just like last season, the Citizens are aiming to win the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup this campaign.
In my view, Alvarez will have to be on top of his game throughout the campaign for City to be successful in their quest.
