Chet Hanks took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce his intention of dedicating his life to God and debuted a new cross tattoo on his chest.
The actor and rapper said in the post that he had been living a life of lies as different characters, but he finally found his life's purpose:
"I have been in character for as long as I've been in the public eye. I've played many roles and worn many masks. Actor. Rapper. Fitness guy. Lambo guy. None of them are the real me."
Chet continued by saying he considers himself "an expert at playing the fool because I learned it as a survival mechanism."
The 32-year-old went on by sharing his view of the world and how that made him find his life's purpose:
"The more I look around at the world I see that the world doesn't need any more caricatures. False depictions of who we think we need to be. There's only one thing the world needs more of and that's God."
"All the pain in my life has resulted from one thing - the lie of believing that my purpose is anything but just serving God," he continuted
Chet went on to explain further by saying: "It's not fully clear to me yet how I can best serve Him but I feel that this level of honesty is a starting point. And I know He will continue to reveal more."
The actor has since deleted all of his Instagram feed, including this post.
Chet's media controversies
Chet is no stranger to making headlines thanks to his past behavior.
In an appearance at Logan Paul's podcast "IMPAULSIVE" in 2021, Chet admitted he had been in rehab for drug addiction and even confessed to selling drugs.
He has also been accused of domestic abuse by his previous girlfriend Kiana Parker and has been in the news for cultural appropriation incidents as well as for his use of the n-word.
Chet Hanks' background
Chet, whose full name is Chester Marlon Hanks, was born August 4, 1990. He is the oldest son of Oscar winner Tom Hanks and singer Rita Wilson. He has a brother from the same marriage, Truman (27), and two half-siblings from Hank's previous marriage to Samantha Lewes: Colin (45) and Elizabeth (41).
Hanks has a 7-year-old daughter named Michaiah.
Chet used to declare himself an atheist, but after a hiking trip when he said he felt God's hand, he became a Christian.
He is currently in a relationship with MMA fighter Melissa Maysing.
