The Kansas City Royals and right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro have agreed to a one-year, $490,875 deal for 2012, reports Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. The club announced the deal via Twitter earlier in the day.

Mazzaro, 25, was acquired in a trade last offseason from the Athletics along with minor leaguer Justin Marks in exchange for outfielder David DeJesus. Without a doubt, the A's won that deal as Mazzaro's given the team practically nothing at the major league level.

He tossed 28 1/3 innings of work last season in seven games last season (4 starts) and allowed 26 runs to score in all while walking (15) five more than striking out (10). There was the infamous start in which the 25-year-old allowed 14 runs to score in 2 1/3 innings of work.
