Features

The black N95 8GB was an evolution of the extremely successful N95. It was designed to address many of the shortcomings of the N95  - in particular the lack of RAM (random access memory) which caused key applications on the phone to run slowly. This new variant, which was slightly bigger, had eight gigabytes of flash memory and sported a 2.8” QVGA display compared to the 2.4” display on the original N95. It was available in several different variants depending on the region where it was offered and the 3G WCDMA frequencies that needed to be supported. The slider that protecting the camera on the N95 was removed to allow for a bigger battery. The N95 8GB had the codename Aino. The team came up with this name as the original N95 had the codename Aalto after famous Finnish designer Alvar Aalto. Aalto’s wife, who was head designer (and eventual managing director) of the Artek design company, was called Aino. As one of the team who worked on the project noted: "What should the upgrade to the flagship N95 be called then, like Aalto but more capacity & performance? His designer architect wife of course!" The TV commercial below, entitled The Next Episode, was designed to take the story on from the 'Riddle' commercial which was made for the original N95. This time the focus was to be on the messaging around the N95 8GB's entertainment features (movies, games and music) that were ideally suited to the increased 8GB memory capacity.
