When Vivek Oberoi entered the showbiz industry, he was destined to become a superstar since all the films he featured in went on to sweep the Box Office. Whether it was Shaad Ali’s Saathiya or Mani Ratnam’s Yuva, there was nothing stopping the actor from attaining glory. However, his career trajectory went through a slump in the later years and he had to face struggles Regardless of the challenges, he bounced back. In a recent interview, Vivek Oberoi talked about his struggle with mental health and also recalled attending Sushant Singh Rajput’s funeral.

Speaking with Humans Of Bombay, Vivek Oberoi shared, “I have met Sushant, interacted with him, he was a lovely boy, phenomenal talent and absolute tragedy to lose him the way we did as an industry. If I am being absolutely honest, there is a very dark place you can get to in life, especially when professional, personal everything starts going wrong at the same time. I have been there, at the edge of darkness. It is not that I have not thought about things that Sushant did.”

Recounting about the time when Sushant Singh Rajput’s funeral took place, Vivek Oberoi added,

“There were 20 people at the funeral. I was one of them. In that rain, I saw the shattered eyes of the father and the only thought I had looking at his body there was, ‘Buddy if you had seen this scene, if you saw what this action would do to the people you love, you wouldn’t have taken this step. Think what would you do by ending your life to the ones who genuinely love you, the hurt and pain. You don’t want to cause them pain. Go into love and light, to the people who actually love you. There will be catharsis, you will cry, it will all come out. I was fortunate that I had that home, I have that home, family, which holds me in those moments. I sat on the floor, put my head on my mother’s lap like a baby and cried and wondered ‘Why is this happening to me?’ I cried for 40 minutes and then she asked me, ‘When you were winning those awards, getting all the fame and love, did you ask why me?’”

Vivek Oberoi was recently seen in Amazon Prime Video’s Indian Police Force. The web series is a spinoff of filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s celebrated cop universe which includes films like Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi among others. It also featured Shilpa Shetty, Sidharth Malhotra, Isha Talwar among the stellar cast.
