Doutzen Kroes might be one of the world’s most famous supermodels, but she says she’s no sample size.
“I’m 28 and I’ve had a baby,” the leggy blond says of her head-turning curves in an interview with The Telegraph. “I have a woman’s body, and once in a while you run into the fact that things are not fitting the way they should be.”
But that doesn’t mean she approves of fashion designers who send girls as young as 14 — like Marc Jacobs did in February — down the runway.
“At some shows, I know they have been using very young girls who have not gone into the change of the body yet — no hips, no boobs,” said the disapproving Kroes.
The Victoria’s Secret Angel, who lives in New York with her husband and 2-year-old son, also worries about how her career — and the countless, edited photos that are a part of it — affect young girls.
“I feel I’m such a big part of that insecurity that some girls might have because of my job, that girls think they have to be that picture,” Kroes told The Telegraph.
“And even boys, they think that that picture exists and it’s so frustrating because I don’t look like that picture — I wake up not looking like that picture.”
The Dutch-born beauty says she maintains healthy habits year-round, but goes into diet-and-exercise overload right before the infamous Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“There are millions of people watching — and even people watching live — so it’s really important to work out a lot, which I do, and I definitely change my diet,” she said. “Diet is 70 percent of what your body looks like. You can work out all you like, but if you don’t eat well …”
Kroes also cuts out booze and minimizes carbs a month before the show, but says she refuses to go to any extremes to slim down to an unhealthy size.
“If they think I’m too fat, I’d rather not do the job because I am super-healthy and fit and I’m so happy the way I am,” she said.
