Biography: The lead singer of the Irish rock group U2 alongside band members Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton, and the Edge. The group formed as teenagers in 1976 and released their first album "Boy" in 1980.
Their third album "War" in 1983 had a strong focus on social and political issues and included the protest single "Sunday Bloody Sunday". It became the group's first No. 1 UK album pushing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" off the top of the charts.
1987's "The Joshua Tree" propelled them to international superstardom, backed up by their live shows. It remains one of the biggest-selling records ever. The band continues to experiment with their sound, going to incorporate electronic sounds and multimedia in their tours in albums such as "Achtung Baby" (1991).
The group have won over 20 Grammy awards and were indicted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, their first year of eligibility.
