Firetruck crashes while responding to blaze in Lancaster County

Firetruck crash

The driver of a pickup truck was injured and has been cited after police say he pulled into the path of an oncoming firetruck in Ephrata Friday. (Ephrata Police).

A firetruck responding to a structure fire in Lancaster County Friday evening hit a pickup truck that police say turned in front of it.

According to Ephrata police, around 7:08 p.m., fire crews from the Ephrata Fire Department were rushing to a working fire on the 1500 block of Division Highway in Ephrata Township.

Soon after the fire call, a responding Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company Ladder Truck was about a block away from the fire when police say a pickup truck turned into its path. The oncoming ladder truck struck the pickup truck, driven by 38-year-old Daryl Reiff, of Annville, according to police.

Reiff was taken to the hospital. The severity of his injuries is unknown. Out of precaution, all firefighters on the ladder truck were taken to the hospital, as well, and were discharged without injury.

Both the firetruck and pickup truck were inoperable and had to be towed from the crash.

Police say Reiff was cited for his driving actions.
