"Departures" by Jia Lu. In my life I have experienced one departure after another, leaving home, work, relationships. Each departure has led to new surroundings and new opportunities. This painting looks back along the way I have come. As the road ahead shortens and the road behind me stretches into the past, I often think about how I have changed. I enjoy change. I believe it is healthy, exciting, and ultimately inescapable.

"Dancers" by Jia Lu. An ethereal scene of young ladies, as beautiful as heaven, as fleeting as a dance: but in the corner, a separate peaceful being that hints of another kind of beauty. His smile reminds us that wealth, beauty, happiness do not endure. What endures is a spirit that knows itself and transcends these earthly things. For me this centered figure represents the heart/mind that clearly discerns the truth, that comes to an understanding of all things, unclouded by desire or confused by believing in the existence of the self. The young men and women who inhabit my created spaces are fictions, imagined in careful detail to reconcile East and West, male and female, the ancient and the modern.
