Callao, Peru - Polarsteps

We wrapped up Ecuador and flew from the border down to Lima. (Flying and not bussing was SUCH a treat!) Neither of us was particularly excited about Lima (we tended to not like the big cities as much and have leaned toward nature and smaller cities), but Lima pulled through and gave us a good time. It’s a sprawling desert city (10 million!) located middle of the way down the Peruvian coast, and is usually gray and cloudy, but we lucked up and got two full days of sun. We filled them with walking tours, explored the crypts below the San Francisco monastery (where over 25,000 monks are buried), took in the amazing graffiti art of the Barranco neighborhood, saw some amazing sunsets, and just generally ate our faces off. Peru’s food (just like everyone told us) is the best so far. A particular shout out for the lomo saltado (delicious tenderloin bits over steak fries) at Isolina - so good you’ll wanna slap your momma!
