Valdivia, Chile - Polarsteps

Valdivia is the capital of the Los Ríos Region and the gateway to the South of Chile. It's located at the confluence of three rivers, the Calle-Calle, Valdivia and Cau-Cau Rivers. It's a really green city with a viby city centre, loads of pubs and craft breweries and delicious 'Kuchen'. (Cake - funny enough the Chileans use the German word for cake ☺ and the Kuchen is indeed as tasty as in Germany 🤤) We stayed on a cute little campsite next to the river and really close to the centre. We visited the fish market and the malecon, strolled through the Univerity park, had 'Heidelbeer-Quarkkuchen' and of course craft beer! As a matter of fact you can find a lot of German names and things in Valdivia, such as German bread (nobody can imagine how happy I was!!!), German architecture and the most famous beer here is called 'Kunstmann'. The reason for this is that Germans have been migrating to the South of Chile for almost 200 years and many of their descendants keep German traditions and the German language alive. On a bit of sad note, Daniel smashed his phone on the way to the botanical garden...so next stop is Puerto Montt for getting it fixed 🙄
