Plastiquarium® founder David Edgar lives in the Carolina Foothills where he is a full time artist retired from the Art Department at UNC Charlotte. A third generation Floridian, David worked as an Imagineer on the EPCOT Center and Tokyo Disneyland projects for the Walt Disney World Company. He has also held career posts in arts administration as Director of the Crealde School of Art in Winter Park and directed The Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida for 12 years. While earning his MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, Edgar worked as a preservation technician in the conservation department of the Henry Ford Museum. He also holds a BFA in Sculpture from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

For over 30 years David’s artwork primarily focused on formal constructivist sculpture in fabricated steel. On Super Bowl Sunday in February 2004 the muses spoke to David in a different voice and he started cutting up and making artwork out of empty plastic detergent bottles. One thing led to another and now his work in recyclable plastics has been shown in over 50 gallery and museum exhibitions both nationally and abroad.

After founding the Plastiquarium® and wanting to share the exciting creative potential of working with post-consumer recyclable plastics, David decided to share the joy. Now he teaches workshops in this contemporary craft form around the US and together with his wife Robin Edgar has developed a book, Fantastic Recycled Plastic (Lark Books 2009).

American. Based in Landrum, SC.
