Maxim just announced that Kate Lanphear has been crowned the mag's newest Editor-in-Chief. Lanphear was most recently was the style director at T, the New York Time's style mag and before that, spent six years at American Elle. And before that, she was at Harper's Bazaar and Australian Vogue. She's well-known as a stylist, women's fashion editor, and a reluctant street style star, which makes this new move all the more unexpected.

It's not clear exactly how Maxim will evolve under Lanphear's leadership, but the men's mag will probably start looking a little more fashion-conscious. "I hope to cultivate and broaden Maxim's coverage of style and culture," Lanphear told WWD. "It's an exciting time for this boldly confident, unapologetic brand."

A spokeswoman for Maxim said the September issue, starring Jessica Alba, was indicative of the changes that are to come for the brand, although Lanphear's first official issue will be March 2015.
