This movie is like watching a college lecture on the intersection and potential conflict between science and philosophy. The intellectual concepts are presented very well, but because the dialogue feels like it's only there to express those concepts, the acting doesn't ring true and is either emotionally hollow or overbearing.

Watching this in 2024 and being closer to a capable AI-system like the movie shows than ever before, its quite scary. I like how Garland only explains and shows the important information and shares other background info via suddle story points. Its just a solid movie with twisted turns and a plot that gives you so much to think about.

a thought provoking movie showing the possible course of ai devlopement in the future, packed with suspense. A movie with a premise ahead of its time in some ways and a good watch if you are interested in the overall topic. Ex Machina stands out in this genre.

With Alex Garland's 'Civil War' tearing it up in cinemas I decided to go back to his incredible 'Ex Machina'. SYNOPSIS: 'A young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in synthetic intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a highly advanced humanoid A.I.' 'Ex Machina' is an intelligent sci-fi film that not only asks some serious ethical questions but also shows a frightening vision of the future. Though to be fair who knows what the world's billionaires are up to presently. This is a smart, thoughtful, and thrilling science fiction drama. Shot on a small budget, Garland's directorial debut is exceptional, and would set up what was to come from his career moving forward. He's clearly one of the best directors out there presently, especially for this genre films. The power struggle here, and the horror which follows, is a stark look at what it is to be human and the battle to survive. A visual spectacle. A sci-fi classic. 9/10
