Lima (Callao), Peru

Founded in 1535 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima stands as Peru’s capital city and the largest in the country—now home to 10 million people. Nestled in the valleys of the Chillon, Rimac and Lurin rivers and overlooking the expanse of the Pacific Ocean, Lima is also home to an array of breathtaking views and exhilarating opportunities to explore and discover—especially because the city’s weather is mild with little to no rain.

Regarded as the Gastronomical Capital of the Americas, Lima is a true paradise for the “foodies” among us. The centrally located Plaza de Armas is often the starting point for food and shopping adventures. Take time to visit the Archbishop Palace and the Iglesia y Convent de San Francisco.

Leave an appetite for Lima’s famous Alfajores—two crumbly cornstarch cookies bookending a creamy caramel filling, topped off with a dusting of powdered sugar. Spend time at night watching the glorious water fountains dance under the lights at The Parque de le Reserve.
