If you've ever watched a makeup tutorial on YouTube, then you probably already know who Jeffree Star is. His larger-than-life personality has made him a super popular YouTube channel and a wildly successful cosmetics brand.
Even if you're not into makeup, there's no way you've missed his many public feuds. From fellow beauty vloggers (and former friends) to basically the entire Kardashian/Jenner family, Jeffree isn't afraid to speak his mind, no matter who he's coming for. He's dating basketball player, Andre Marhold.
After ending his five-year-long relationship with ex-boyfriend Nathan Schwandt in January 2019, Jeffree has officially moved on. In August 2020, he went Instagram official with pro basketball player Andre Marhold. So far, the relationship has been rife with drama.
Immediately after announcing their new romance, Andre's alleged ex-girlfriend took to Twitter to bash the couple and accuse Andre of sending her sexual videos from Jeffree's home. Jeffree also shared on Twitter that he began receiving homophobic backlash for his new relationship.
He's got more than 17 million subscribers on YouTube.
To be fair, Jeffree has been doing this for a long time. He first joined Youtube in 2006 and has been growing his following ever since. His YouTube channel is full of makeup tutorials, product reviews and passionate takes. It even includes cameos from other YouTubers and famous faces like Shane Dawson, Bhad Babie, and the Dolan Twins.
He started his own cosmetics brand.
Jeffree says he's been obsessed with makeup since he was 13. Back then, he would steal his mother's eye shadows and copy looks from the fashion ads in magazines. In 2014, he finally launched his own makeup line, Jeffree Star Cosmetics with the help of former-friend Kat Von D, and it quickly took off. Just how much? According to Forbes, his line sells more than $100 million worth of makeup annually. Before starting his own beauty brand, Jeffree worked behind makeup counters, like MAC Cosmetics, and did glam for celebrities, fashion shoots, and weddings.
He started off in the music industry and did a song with Nicki Minaj.
Before becoming a mega-influencer, Jeffree was Myspace-famous. Sounds ancient, but he was on the social media site that started it all. Jeffree used Myspace to promote his musical career, becoming the most followed person on the site by 2006.
In 2009, Jeffree released his first and only studio album, Beauty Killer. It included a song with Nicki Minaj called "Lollipop Luxury." During his music career, Jeffree also signed to a label by artist Akon, who called Jeffree "the next Lady Gaga," but Jeffree left the music industry in 2013.
He's got lots of beef with Kylie Jenner.
Whew, y'all – this feud has literally been going on for years. It first started when Jeffree called out Kylie's lip glosses in April 2016. Kylie Cosmetics had just launched and some people who had ordered the newly-released glosses were receiving defective wands. Jeffree posted photos of the applicators saying he was disappointed. At the time, Kylie took his posts as feedback and not shade, saying she was working on fixing the product.
Since then, Jeffree has continuously called out Kylie and the quality of her products, telling buyers of her products their simply paying for an over-hyped celebrity name.
He's shaded her many times throughout the years, but Kylie has never explicitly responded. In 2018, though, Jeffree confirmed that Kylie removed him from the press list for Kylie Cosmetics. We can only guess she got tired of his rants.
He's been involved in a ton of other feuds and controversies.
He's called out Too-Faced founder Jarrod Blandino for allegedly underpaying beauty blogger NikkieTutorials (who he also feuded with at one point) and had a major falling out with with fellow makeup artists Manny "MUA" Gutierrez, Gabby Zamora, Laura Lee and Nikita Dragun.
Jeffree was also accused of racism (which he later apologized for) because of a racist video he posted on Myspace. He's also received backlash for racist comments made to other beauty vloggers over the years, including allegedly calling Jackie Aina a "gorilla". In 2020, Jackie led a protest against Morphe, alongside other beauty influencers, calling on the brand to stop carrying Jeffree Star Cosmetics products. As a result, Morphe announced they cut ties with Jeffree and his brand.
He even fell out with his best friend Kat Von D.
Jeffree Star had a nearly 10-year friendship with Kat Von D, who supposedly helped him promote his cosmetics line by putting in a few calls for him. Their friendship went completely down the drain in 2016 when Kat confronted Jeffree about not paying graphic designer B.J. Betts for some work he did for Jeffree. This set Jeffree off. He claimed Kat never supported him or his line. He even went at her in a 30-min long YouTube video.
The feud ended up sort of fizzling out. But in 2018, Jeffree took to Twitter to shade Kat again by teasing her about her line being on sale at Marshall's.
As far as we know, they have never mended their friendship.
Kim Kardashian came to his defense once.
When news about Jeffree's alleged racist Myspace comments resurfaced online, Kim took to social media to defend Jeffree, saying he shouldn't be judged for comments he made in his past.
But eventually she backtracked and apologized for defending him, explaining it wasn't her intent to offend anyone.
He once appeared in a Good Charlotte music video.
Jeffree made a cameo in the music video for their song "The River." In it, Good Charlotte performs along a concrete river bank that runs through Los Angeles. The video compares the darker and more glamorous sides of L.A, featuring cameos from Jeffree and actress, Megan Fox, in the background.
He identifies as androgynous.
In 2009, he opened up about his gender to Out Magazine, saying " So I don't really call myself anything. I am a guy, I don't want to have a sex-change – you know, my mom blessed me – so, I'm going to stay a man and look like a girl and everyone's gonna f*ckin' like it!"
He has a ton of famous faces tattooed on his body.
They include Sharon Tate, Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley, Princess Diana and fictional character, Wednesday Addams, among more.
