STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The roller coasters are revving up and safari animals are waking out of their winter hibernation. Six Flags Great Adventure is now readying for an April 1 reopening, and the theme park is unveiling lots of new experiences to celebrate the occasion.

“At Six Flags we’re laser-focused on improving the overall guest experience,” said interim park President Randy Wilke. “With investments in the beautification of our property, updated dining offerings, incredible safari additions and an exciting events schedule brimming with new, imaginative events, Six Flags is the place to be in 2023 to create lasting memories.”

Six Flags will start the 2023 operating season with the all-new, “Scream Break,” an experience that pushes the park’s popular Fright Fest-style festivities into the spring season. The week-long event, which runs from April 8 to 15, offers after-hours chills, haunted houses, ghouls and exclusive nighttime rides.

Other opening enhancements include:

  • Updated dining experiences. Yum Yum Café will open with a brand-new menu and beautified dining space. Wicked Saloon boasts all-new enclosed outdoor dining, patio furniture and televisions.
  • Park beautification. Enhanced in-park beautification with increased green spaces, including Great Adventure Garden.

Safari highlights for 2023:

  • Five Siberian tiger cubs will be introduced to an exhibit in a new area of the safari.
  • European brown bear cubs, a rare newborn bongo calf and a sable antelope calf all join the safari in 2023.
  • Six Flags Wild Safari will once again host its popular monthly overnight camping adventures this summer.
  • Georgia the Giraffe will celebrate 31 years of life, likely one of the oldest giraffes under human care and a grandmother to many giraffes on property.

Events schedule:

  • The park will be open during spring break from April 5 to 16. Operating hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The all new “Scream Break” brings after-hours chills, haunted houses, ghouls and exclusive nighttime rides.
  • Upcoming summer events include: Pride Night, celebrating the entire LGBTQ+ community; Flavors of the World, an all-new dining experience that takes you around the world in one day; July 4th fireworks; a new Blues, Brews & BBQ festival; and Viva la Fiesta, an all-day affair that celebrates Latin heritage.
  • Later in 2023, Oktoberfest, Boo Fest and Fright Fest return, and there will also be veterans weekend activities and Holiday in the Park entertainment.

Six Flags will be open on April 1 and 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will then open for spring break from April 5 to 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Six Flags Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will also operate on those days.

A Spring Break Season Pass sale is ongoing, with season passes starting at $7.99/month after initial payment. For a limited time, when guests purchase a Gold Pass they will receive a free upgrade to Platinum, which includes unlimited visits to Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor New Jersey, Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure, free parking and a variety of other perks and discounts.

More than 10 diverse departments at the Six Flags Great Adventure properties are hiring for the 2023 season, the company noted. Wages range from $15 to $20 per hour.
