Is Oguchi Onyewu attempting a comeback?

The former USMNT defender has been spotted with Rangers FC.

Yes, that is a serious headline. Apparently Oguchi Onyewu is feeling good about his health and is ready to try and get back on the field. It's been 17 months since the menacing former USMNT center back took the field competitively for Charlton Athletic. However, he's been spotted in Charleston, South Carolina training with Rangers FC ahead of their preseason tour of the United States.

Onyewu, 34, is one of the most physically imposing defenders the U.S. has ever produced. He has 69 caps for the national team and has scored 6 goals. His last cap was in March of 2014, a friendly loss against Ukraine.

He was once considered the best defender the USMNT had for a short spell until knee injuries derailed his career. His most notable club accomplishments include signing with AC Milan in 2009 and being involved in a controvesial fight with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in which the superstar admits that the American did heavy damage to him.

Rangers earned promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season and are looking for defensive help. Is Onyewu a possible signing? Who knows.

Steven Goff of the Washington Post reported that Gooch has trained with D.C. United in the past but that he isn't an option as a signing for them. It's possible that he's just training to train, but he could be competing for a contract.

Whatever the case, we wish the big man luck and hope to see him on the field again one day.
