Warning: Major spoilers ahead for The Midnight Club season 1 on Netflix.

If you binged The Midnight Club — created by the showrunner who brought us The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor — in one day, you're not alone. But that also means you're probably eagerly awaiting a season 2 announcement, given how much the first season leaves unanswered even as it tells a complete, moving narrative.

Based on a collection of books by Christopher Pike, The Midnight Club series follows a group of young people who are terminally ill and living out the remainder of their lives in a potentially haunted manor house. They meet at night to tell scary stories and enjoy each other's friendship, finding hope in some pretty bleak circumstances.

Below, find out everything you need to know about The Midnight Club season 2.

Fingers crossed for a Midnight Club season 2, but as the show is still very new, we're likely a ways off from knowing if Netflix will continue the series. The ending of season 1, however, was left open, with a clear hint that more could be explored at Brightcliffe.

“This was designed to be ongoing,” co-creator Mike Flanagan told press at an event that Teen Vogue attended prior to the show's release. “I don’t know if it will. We’ll see how it goes, and we probably won’t know for another month or so what Netflix wants to do. But this was very much designed to continue. Pike has 80 books, so we have a lot of incredible material to pull from.”

Executive producer Trevor Macy added, “There’s a couple ideas for season 2, but I won’t jinx it.”

Meanwhile, there are plenty of unanswered questions at the end of season 1: Who are Cheri's parents, and which parts are her telling the truth? What will happen to Sandra outside of Brightcliffe? What's the deal with Dr. Stanton?

“We also didn’t answer some of the bigger questions of the season,” Flanagan said. “Those answers exist but were meant to be for second season. If there isn’t one, I’ll put them up on Twitter.”

The Midnight Club is based on several books by author Christopher Pike, who has written dozens of novels. Netflix bought the rights to around 28 of those stories, so there's plenty of material to play with — material that could be used for a second season. Flanagan hinted that one book in particular could potentially be pulled out for a future major arc in the show.

“There are books in the Pike canon that as a fan I was like, I don't know that we want to take Remember Me and burn it on a B-story in the inaugural season of the show," Flanagan told press. “That's one of the most iconic Pike books, that's probably going to want more real estate if we're gonna touch it. That's going to wanna be its own half season thing, if we're going to do it.”

If Dr. Stanton's Paragons tattoo is any indication, we'll likely see more of her in a hypothetical second season. She clearly knows more than she's letting on. Other possible cast continuations could be almost all of the current Midnight Club, excepting Ruth Codd's Anya, who dies during the season. However, if more imaginary stories are in the mix, that could mean more chances for characters to come back from the dead, in a sense.

The story could also pick up in a different era of the Midnight Club entirely, following Dr. Stanton as a cult leader or cult leader's daughter in the 60s and 70s, or Julia Jayne herself. As a longtime fan of Christopher Pike since he was a child, Mike Flanagan clearly has some interesting ideas…
