Pundit Micah Richards has now claimed that there are two regular starters at Chelsea that are struggling to work out how to play together right now.

He told ‘The Rest is Football’ that the partnership of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in midfield is one that is struggling to get things right at the moment.

Fernandez actually picked up man of the match for his display at the weekend against Fulham, with him seeming to pull the strings far more than he had been in recent weeks.

He was joined by a bustling Caicedo, who made sure he won the ball back for his team just moments after they had given it away in another quality display that will go under the radar.

It was clearly not enough to impress everyone though. Richards claimed after the game that he still believed the partnership needed improvements from where it is right now.

He said: “I think Enzo and Caicedo in midfield don’t really know what each other are doing. Is one going and one staying?

“Is it worth dropping one of them and then bringing Conor Gallagher back? Don’t forget they still have Lavia as well, so where does he fit into the team?”

While there will certainly been more expectation from many for more from the two midfielders who cost over £100m, those watching closely will have seen frequent improvement from the duo in recent weeks in all competitions.

Their presence and performances are going to be crucial for the Blues next week when they look to turn around a one goal deficit in the EFL Cup semi-finals.

Caicedo in particular came in for some criticism during the first leg of that tie against Middlesbrough, however his performance was again a showcase of him playing far better than many are perhaps giving him credit for.
