QUIRKS: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are intelligent dogs that make obedience training fairly easy. They are outgoing and eager to please. Because of their hunting background, they have an instinct to chase the lizards roaming in your back yard.

ODD: This breed derives from the King Charles Spaniel, which in the 1600s were believed to be bred with pugs that gave them the traits of a smaller body frame, upturned faces, and large protruding eyes.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE A CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL: They are loyal, fearless and great companions. They come in four colors: blenheim, tricolor, ruby, and black and tan.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY OR ADOPT: Various health issues can include heart murmurs. Be sure you find a reputable breeder. Because of the long hair covering their ears, you need be sure they are kept clean. They don't require grooming other than frequent brushing and regular baths.
