Genoa's only other keeper is backup Eugenio Lamanna, who has barely played since joining the club in 2008 - and boss Ivan Juric wants to lure Mannone back to his homeland.
Mannone moved to England in 2005 to join Arsenal, where he played a handful of games, before finding success at Sunderland.

But he has been ousted from number one by the emergence of wonderkid Jordan Pickford - and has only played recently since Pickford became injured for eight weeks.
Pickford only got his chance due to an elbow injury sustained by the 28-year-old former Italy U21 international which saw him out for three months earlier this season.
He is prone to the odd blunder but also produces match-winning saves, almost single-handedly salvaging relegation-threatened Black Cats a draw recently against Liverpool.
Genoa aren't the only side to be interested in Mannone, as Aston Villa were keen before Pickford's injury as were Serie A giants Inter Milan who saw him as a backup to first choice Samir Handanovic.
