This sci-fi curio could be the lava lamp of the 21st century. Instead of fascinating your friends with molten globules of wax, though, the Levitron can suspend an object in mid-air, Buck Rogers-style, an inch or so above a levitation pad. This item can then be gently spun (with a quick prod of a finger to set it in motion) and is eerily showcased by the intense blue lights that adorn the gadget’s plastic surface.

Electromagnets are employed to keep an item of up to 3oz afloat above the 7in-square, mains-powered base. The device comes with a small plastic globe and you can choose to make this hover, or remove the metal disc within it and place other objects, even non-metal ones, on top of
