Centaurs can be found in Greek mythology; they were said to live on the mountains and in the forests in the land of Thessaly. They were a hybrid creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body and legs of a horse. They were sometimes referred to as 'hippocentaurs' as the Ancient Greek word for horse was 'hippos'.
The lower body of the centaur was believed to be that of a horse and it was said to be covered in hair. Centaurs are said to have had the four legs of a horse and it was believed that they could travel at speed over long distances.
In many stories from ancient Greece, centaurs were portrayed as wild and rowdy creatures who worshipped Dionysus (the god of wine). They were said to be savage and to enjoy causing trouble.
