Contract signed
The 31-year-old has passed a medical and signed a two-year contract with the 2007/08 Ligue 1 runners-up for an undisclosed fee. Placente first moved to Europe in 2001 with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and helped them finish runners-up in the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup in his debut season. Four years later he joined RC Celta de Vigo before returning to Argentina 12 months ago.

Compatriots
"San Lorenzo gave me an option to play for a European side," Placente said. "It was one of my aims. Things went quickly with Bordeaux. They are an attractive side which some Argentinian players have confirmed to me." Capped 22 times by Argentina and a winner of the 1997 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Placente links up with compatriots Fernando Cavenaghi and Alejandro Alonso, Brazilians Wendel, Jussiê and Luis Henrique and Bordeaux's new attacking signings Yoann Gourcuff and Yoan Gouffran. Bordeaux enter the UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
