Rih and her partner, A$AP Rocky, partook in a breathtakingly normal date night activity at Color Me Mine in Beverly Hills, where she wore a not-so-standard outfit for painting pre-made pottery. The singer and mogul mixed aesthetics in her look: on top she opted for a preppy tone, wearing a bulldog graphic tee underneath a striped button-up, tied at the waist.
She added a punky twist with her bottoms: a pair of pointy-toed Balenciaga fishnet pantaboots, that made it appear like she wasn’t wearing any pants. Rihanna upped the edge factor with a silver chain necklace. And, perhaps the most niche aspect of her look was her Los Angeles Dodgers hat. With the introduction of buzzy new player Shohei Ohtani, all of LA is in the sporty spirit—Rihanna included, apparently.
As the pantless trend reaches its peak, Rihanna chose an opportune moment to hop aboard. One to always take a look to the extreme, Rih demands the highest level of devotion to fashion. “I already wanted to [slice my throat], for wearing a thong that wasn’t bedazzled," she told Vogue in 2016, speaking on what could have been of her Adam Selman naked dress look at the 2014 CFDA Awards. "That’s the only regret I have in my life.”
A bold, eye-catching trend like this demands the wearer’s full commitment, and we’ve got to hand it to Rihanna for her dedication to pantlessness. Frankly, if you aren’t doing it like Rihanna, then don’t do it at all.
