Everything you need to know about the Harry Potter reboot that everyone is talking about

Potterheads have been in an impatient frenzy since Warner Bros announced the return of Harry Potter in the form of a series. Here's what we know so far.

It all started in November 2022, when David Zaslav, the President and CEO of Warner, announced at a conference that he wanted to reboot the Harry Potter saga with J.K. Rowling. Since then, opinions are divided – is it better to explore the bespectacled sorcerer's adventures through a sequel that will tell the story of events long after the final film, or to reboot the series completely with different actors? Warner seems to have more than one trick up its sleeve.

J.K. Rowling will be overseeing the series

There are many fans who were frustrated by the films' removing numerous passages from the books, or by it simply not being faithful to them at all. Warner has found the perfect fix – attaching J.K. Rowling to the project so as to not miss any details and ensure that all of the storylines are accurately reproduced.

According to the announcement on Bloomberg's site (who have sources very close to Warner), each book in the series will be turned into a season, and the 7 seasons of this masterpiece will be released one after the other on the HBO Max platform. A deal could be about to be signed, and fans cannot contain their excitement.

A brand new cast

The controversy around J.K. Rowling's statements has wrought disagreement and discord among the cast. Staying true to their convictions, some of the actors, such as Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, say they no longer wish to work with the writer after her statements, which were called out as transphobic by the Twittersphere. That said, other actors such as James and Olivier Phelps, who played the Weasley, recently announced their backing of the project and their openness to appearing on screen in different roles to those we saw them play in the original series of films.

In any case, it seems a completely new cast is on the horizon. We cannot wait to meet the new Harry, Ron and Hermione.

The first teaser has already been revealed

Just ten days after the project's confirmation, HBO Max broke the internet with the release of a teaser for the series. In a matter of seconds, we are once again immersed in Hogwarts' magical atmosphere as the Great Hall's floating candles fly through the screen to form the name Harry Potter, set to the iconic Hedwig's Theme written by John Williams in 2001.
