COVINGTON, Va. (WFXR) — While responding to one vehicle crash along the interstate on Wednesday, a Covington fire truck ended up being damaged in a separate crash.

According to the Covington Fire Department, one of the department’s vehicles was hit by a “tractor and trailer” on I-64 while at the scene of wreck on Wednesday, March 2.

Fire officials say one firefighter was transported to LewisGale Alleghany and later released.

In addition to these incidents, the department says crews also responded to a smoke alarm activation, a brush fire, and a structure fire, for a total of five calls on Wednesday.

“A huge thanks to all of our surrounding county departments for the mutual aid assistance today,” the Covington Fire Department posted on Facebook.
