Michael DeLucia

January 22, 2015

Michael DeLucia is American visual artist born in 1978, in Rochester, New York. A former assistant of Jeff Koons, DeLucia was educated at the Royal College of Art, London, where he got his MFA in Sculpture, in 2004, and at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence where he got his BFA degree in 2001.

Broadly defined, his practice is engaged with the appropriation, fetishization and exploitation of objects of mass production in the pursuit of an abstract form. His sculptural process begins with explorations of these objects with computer modelling software, resulting in a hybrid form of painting and sculpture, image and abstraction, fabricated and found object. He is not afraid to remove all context of the object, playing instead with the sculptures’ scale, deceptively-simple compositions and the multiplicity that abstracts them.

Michael DeLucia has had many gallery and museum exhibitions, including solo shows at the Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Paris and at the Eleven Rivington, New York. Group shows include Socrates Sculpture Park, LIC, Halsey McKay, East Hampton, Andrea Rosen, NY, Derek Eller, NY, and Bureau, NY, among others.

He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
