Mary was born in 1857, the daughter of Frederick Dann and Sarah (Merritt)[1][2] Tower Hill is also known as Warrnambool.
She married Almond Cornish Whitford in 16th May 1878 in Ararat, Victoria[3] He was a widower whose wife and child had passed away. (Marriage date was sourced from her daughter, Edith Julia's birth certificate)
Mary and Almond then had 10 children between 1879 and 1895.
Mary passed away in 1928[4]
Death notice: The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957) Sat 4 Aug 1928 - WHITFORD.—On the 27th July (suddenly), at her residence, Martin Street, Dunkeld, Mary, widow of the late A. C. Whitford, of Victoria Valley, and loving mother of Lydia (Mrs. Hodge), Edith (Mrs. Hansford), Mabel (Mrs. Duxson), Almond Cornish, Mary (Mrs. Smethurst), Elizabeth (Mrs. Fry). Louisa (Mrs. Crawford), and Dorothea, aged 71 years.[5]
Mary Whitford is buried in the Dunkeld cemetery.[6]
