Bad news for fans of Electronic Arts' virtual people simulator: The latest addition to the franchise, The Sims 3, has been delayed.

Instead of reaching retail shelves on February 20, as originally planned, publisher EA now claims that the game will be released on the Windows PC platform on June 2.

No reason is given for the delay, though the official announcement includes commentary from Russell Arons, EA's VP of marketing:

"The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for *The Sims 3. *The Sims
3
will be the original IP summer blockbuster of 2009 as we build off the success of the best-selling PC franchise of all time to create awareness with both loyal Sims fans and new players.”
