While texturizing powders and body-boosting sprays definitely help thicken up the appearance of strands, the secret to creating natural-looking fullness lies in the right haircut. Since a few strategic snips are all it takes to add major oomph, it’s important to know exactly what to ask for as soon as you sit in the salon chair.

“Try a modern shag,” advises Jessica Gonsalves, a L’Oréal Professionnel artist. “It offers movement, texture and style — keeping the hair at a medium length with shaggy layers will help anyone with thin hair feel like they have an on-trend style that’s also easy to maintain.” It’s also a perfect 'do to show off your natural texture, making styling a breeze. For a little extra movement, Gonsalves recommends using a dry finishing spray like L’Oreal Professionnel’s Next Day Hair on strands. “It gives sexy volume while adding texture throughout the rest of your hair,” she explains.

However, a modern shag may not work if your strands are naturally stick straight. Instead, opt for a blunt cut that grazes your shoulders or collarbone. “Keeping your layers at a minimum helps your hair to feel and appear thicker,” says Gonsalves.
