General counsel of some of America’s biggest companies say their legal departments are determined to foster innovation but without causing risks to skyrocket or falling out of compliance with regulators.

“As we’re developing new products in an uncertain landscape, we have to be embedded with the business,” said Kerry McLean, general counsel of Intuit, which makes TurboTax and other popular financial software.
