Sound wise, Land Warrior packs a whopping punch. Whether it's the loud boom of the .50-caliber sniper rifle or the popping sound of the M4, the sometimes surreal sound of intense gun battles enriches the atmosphere of Land Warrior and draws the player into the game. Jungles and swamps seem to be swarming with various creatures and insects making their own distinctive sounds. When all you can hear is the sound of crickets, you know it's time to start watching your back for some sneaky terrorists hiding among the foliage. Although the game is lacking any kind of background music, Land Warrior is packed with an all natural atmosphere that creates tension within an immersed game environment.
With more than 20 moderate-to-easy single player missions, multiplayer is where Land Warrior really shines. Logging onto Novalogic's own Novaworld servers for Delta Force games is a snap. Through the game interface you can create a user name and password, and then connect to Novaworld for free gaming with up to 50 players in any game. Several types of online play are available, but most games consist of either team deathmatch, capture the flag, or team king of the hill. Novalogic seems to have set a temporary limit of 32 players per game, and it's often hard to get into one because there aren't enough games available. However, after successfully getting in, it's hard to get out because the game play is so addictive. The specially designed multiplayer maps are truly impressive and extremely conducive to the type of play offered by Land Warrior. Playing a multiplayer game of Land Warrior is like immersing yourself in the first thirty minutes of Saving Private Ryan. With dozens of human controlled players running around firing all kinds of weapons and setting off grenades right and left, it's a challenge just to stay alive.
Delta Force Land Warrior offers updated graphics with improved interior areas. The fact that it borrows its name from the military's own Land Warrior program gives it an endorsement that many games of this type do not have. Land Warrior sports a wide variety of missions over the course of the single player campaign, and some of the best multiplayer action in its genre. While not being as realistic as some may have hoped, the game has just enough realism to be convincing and enough gameplay to be entertaining. Both the friendly and enemy AI could use some tweaking and player models aren't quite up to par, but the rest of the game is absolutely beautiful. Several small enhancements like breakable glass and objects that are penetrable to small arms help create a more realistic environment. Overall, Land Warrior is a game that deserves to be on any action or tactical gamer's hard drive.
