After months of restoration work at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the iconic British Airways Concorde aircraft has returned to its home at the Intrepid Museum.

The Concorde was loaded onto a barge Wednesday and sailed up the Hudson River to Weeks Marine in Jersey City for an overnight stay. It embarked on its final journey back to the Museum on Thursday.

Shortly thereafter, the Concorde was lifted by a 300-foot crane and returned to Pier 86.

Pier 86 was opened to the public, allowing visitors to witness the Concorde's return firsthand. A livestream was also set up.

The British Airways Concorde, renowned as the fastest commercial aircraft in the world, has been a cherished exhibit at the Intrepid Museum since its arrival at Pier 86 in 2003. The extensive restoration project involved stripping the aircraft's paint coating, sanding it and reapplying the plane's well-known colors and markings.

Simultaneously, the museum is renovating a section of Pier 86 adjacent to the Concorde's display area.

Tours of the Concorde are set to resume on April 4. Visitors will once again be able to step inside the Concorde, learn about its storied past and look into its sophisticated flight deck.
