Introduction

You'll be seeing this screen a lot.Battle Engine Aquila by Infogrames is the definitive mecha game of the year. It has everything ranging from tanks to infantry to fighter craft, but the best part is that you don't get to play any of those conventional vehicles.

Instead, you get to pilot a walker-type prototype that is a single tactical unit by itself. It's a "Battle Engine" as opposed to just being a walking robot, since it can also transform and take to the air in a limited fashion. Mecha fans will not be disappointed by this game, and it serves as an example of how great a mecha can be without all the fancy licensing and claim to fame.

Although you may be put off by the first-person view at first, you will find Battle Engine Aquila does not suffer from any of the hang-ups commonly seen in any of the FPS genre. Controls are smooth and the graphics are crisp. If you are a fan of all things mecha, Battle Engine is a definite keeper for your game library!
