More information:

Sheep ked (Melophagus ovinus), light micrograph. This wingless, blood-sucking fly is an ectoparasite of sheep. The hooks on the ends of its legs help it to attach to its host. Adults feed several times a day and large infestations can cause anaemia. The sheep ked is spread by close contact between sheep. Treatment with sheep dip should successfully remove all keds.
